Deimos: Behind the Music

Steve Manuszak was born in a small town in Radford Virginia, then moved to North Carolina, then moved to South Carolina. He then moved to Glen Ellyn, IL. He grew up thinking that he wanted to be an importer/exporter like his father the banker, but his life was soon changed when he attended private school at Saint Petronielle's. At an early age he met fellow schoolmates Dave Lisowski and Joe Dorger. They slowly became friends with Steve. Dave had been learning different drum techniques from his father who had performed professionally in such bands as flight and Drama B. And Steve began learning the art of guitar from his brother around the age of 14. Steve and Dave first got their heavy metal influence from Joe who was into such bands as Metallica and Ozzy Ozzbourne and they decided that they would begin practicing in Davis basement. Their lack of a skill and overall crappyness led to their necessity of a better guitar player. Matt Gallager who had been playing guitar since he was 5 was recruited because he lost a poker bet. He was far more experienced than Steve, and got them on the road to success. Joe Dorger who still had not been a part of the band, but attended all jam sessions decided that he would attempt to play bass for the band. He borrowed Steve’s brothers instrument, and has stuck with it ever since. The band practiced for about a year going anywhere. They were lacking something that every heavy Metal band needed. Drugs, a harmonica player, and women. Morgan Demling who began his career as a blues guitar/harmonica player was soon recruited to Deimos, and the band has been on a role ever since. Their first appearance was at a lightly publicized battle of the bands at their high school Glenbard West. The band dominated the metal scene at Glenstock. However, a group of 22 year-old musicians came in and beat their pants off. After a pleasing performance but a disappointing loss, the band went out for a night of heavy celebration in the form of alcohol. The band found a new band member, alcohol. Everyone in the band learned to love Morgan, Captain Morgan that is. The band now had two of three essential components. All they needed was women, which they didn’t come close to. Troubles with women and within the band, lead to heavier drinking. After a late night jam session, many problems arose. The band had gotten into a bitter fight and for the first time things weren’t right in the band. That night heavy drinking ensued and the band split into two parties. Democratic, containing Matt, Steve, and Dave, and Republicans, Joe and Morgan. The democrats were forced to remain conservative, and spend the night at Dave’s house because they had passed out. The republicans desired change a decided to go to home. That night changed the band. Joe drunk with power and from alcohol thought he could handle the massive Mazda MPV. Handling like a dream and peaking at speeds of 60 m.p.h. the MPV became a death machine. Joe Dorger was a madman behind the wheel. Swerving all over the road and trying to hit a pedestrian, Joe accidentally smashed into a tree throwing Morgan through the windshield. The next day, Joe awoke to a dizzying blur, probably caused by a hangover. He was surrounded by all of his band members, except for Morgan and alcohol. The band was shattered by this horrible loss, and decided to kick alcohol out of the band. The band decided to continue without their precious band mates. Despite all efforts to avoid alcohol, it continued to rule their lives. Deimos quickly allowed alcohol back into the band. Even though they have had their troubles with alcohol, deaths, and lack of women, Deimos has continued on stronger than ever. They have released three number one singles and two albums gone platinum. Deimos are currently touring across the nation to sold out shows all over.
